MAPS Festival Manchester May 25th

Absolutely bloody shattered today, I have a hangover and feel like rubbish, look like it too which would be ok if I had a lazy sunday ahead but today were performing as part of the MAPS festival which is a festival spread across a variety of venues in the Northern Quarter of Manchester. It started Friday but we havent had chance to check any of it out with being away but Manchester has been rammed all weekend so I know its going well. Denim gets back to mine for 5.30pm and we head to our first destination and first set of the evening for 6.30pm MOHO Live next door to Afflecks Palace, as we arrive theres a band playing so we get changed in a cosy room with a black leather couch thats calling my name to snuggle up on and crash out but no time for that. We get on stage around 7pm to a small but appreciative crowd including the previous band who form a front row for us. A couple of photos with members of the audience and then we scoot of to the second venue of our evening, Night and Day on Oldham street where we are now set to go onstage at 9pm. We have a couple of drinks, mingle with the crowd and watch a couple of really good bands but its so rammed in the small venue that its really draining and sweaty. We find a little cosy corner at the back to set up base and sit gossiping and watching the door man who had the best curly moustache ever a la Eugene from Gogol Bordello. This time we had to change in the ladies toilets- the glamour while creating a fascinated crowd of drunk older women, they were lovely though and vowed to cheer very loud for us which they did!! We managed to entertain the packed out crowd of trendy manchester scenesters which I was happy about as I wasn't sure how they would take to it. The smiles on everyones faces and cheers said they especially loved our silly charleton-esque routine that we did so all in all we are half way there and going well!!
We meet my friend Liam and stroll to venue number three of the evening definately in need of an alcoholic fix by now, purely just to keep me awake, im so shattered from hitting the gigging and partying hard since thurs. The Roadhouse is half full, theres an interesting Ska type band on that are followed by a pretty decent female fronted band. They look really young and as always we dont really fit in. The manager was nice and gave us her office to change in due to too many sweaty young boys in the changing room but the sexist soundman was a bit of a wanker to be honest from what I hear from Denim he talked to her like she was a little girl and was suprised to hear she was part of a show and not some little fan of a band. Either way by the time we got to the stage doing our girl on girl dark duet to Tainted Love he looked to be enjoying himself as did the rest of the room, lots of girls were loving it which I prefer really so from another success all that was left was to head to the after party at Ruby Lounge. After walking through the streets of manchester totally shattered but having fun to cries of 'theres Johnny Depp' at my friend Liam (he is Jack Sparrow wether he likes it or not!!) we arrive at our final destination. The door man is happy to see us I think, he loved it last time we performed, he had sneaked in to watch the show and said he would again ha. Ruby Lounge was full to the brim with a mix of people. We are late for our last set so get put back to midnight which gets a mixed reception. Fraser King are playing tonight, I really liked them last time I saw them. We get ready backstage and after hanging about for a while and chilling its finally the last leg of the show. I would normally love the excitement surrounding the festival and want to party well into the night but tonight im on reserved energy. I do love the gig though, we only have to do ten mins, two routines back to back and with a packed venue and everyone leaning on the stage the energy and atmosphere is awesome. We go for it and really have fun. The crowd go wild, we run off and were nearly done!! We stick around for a bit of a mingle before heading off around 1 am shattered, leaving Liam behind to get harassed by drunk girls wanting to have pictures with them haha rock on!!
All in all a triumphant day for the glitter kittens!

Monmouth, Wales May 23rd, Ricky Hatton May 24th

Back on the road, I think I dream about travelling. Myself and Denim headed south this time back to Wales, we had a laugh en route filming for the show video and generally being stupid. I love Wales, the people are always really friendly there so we got into the spirit by dancing along to welsh songs on BBC Wales. When we reached the venue to say we felt out of place would be an understatement, for a start it was still daylight because we had to go on stage by 7.30 which is bizarrely early for us for a start a burlesque show but also it was an all ages gig in a community centre. We pulled up with a car full of frilly knickers and booze to a sign announcing a cabaret show, some kids climbing trees and some grannies in walking jackets strolling the grounds. oh dear, if you dont laugh you cry so we sat in the car discussing worse case scenarios and imagining a room full of offended grannies. There was now a group of kids drinking and smoking in the field outside and we decided these must be our crowd, ah well!! The very friendly staff showed us to our dressing room that looked a bit like a church room where we changed into our show outfits and promptly went downstairs to do our first set of 10 mins which was really surreal because it felt as if we were on our own in the hall as everyone hid along the walls and watched from a safe distance. They filmed the event i think so if i can get a copy il post some of it up. The night got busier and we did two more sets with everyone becoming more confident and coming closer. It ended up a nice change and alot of fun and to make it even better we had finished and been paid by 10.30pm. All the teenage girls loved it and surrounded us saying how lucky we were, talented and skinny etc bless they really were impressed and looked up to us i think, i hope we havent scarred them for life haha. The kids loved it and the dads definatley loved it, we well made there day, they were all there filming it on their phones. We stuck around to watch the band Thyrd Eye before heading back home for a couple of beers and a pizza.
Saturday I woke up tired but excited, again more partying to be done!! Fight time with Ricky Hatton. We headed to the Manchester City Stadium in the afternoon and had a good day drinking in the sun waiting for the fight. Luckily we had wristbands that allowed us to go almost anywhere ( not back stage or anything i dont think-we were very behaved and didnt try).
They did allow us into the ringside area but as we didnt have seats we ended up on the floor but with a perfect view, Mike Tyson was there, I was well impressed although others were more blown away by Callum Best?! whatever floats your boat I suppose. The fight was wicked and of course Ricky won!!woo!! We headed out of the stadium and off to Rock Kitchen to dance the night away..

Paisley Music Fest may 22nd, Scotland

Another day on the road with a four hour drive to Paisley just outside of Glasgow. We were playing at the student union there for a music festival called F**k Thursdays that was to have a load of bands playing in two rooms and our good selves later in the evening. We went for a walk around the town, there was some beautiful old buildings but we didnt have long so we strolled back to the venue. There was bands and beer everywhere, we got our rider which was a crate of carlsberg and a bottle of vodka and settled in to party and watch some bands. We got to watch Wired Desire and a couple of others but before we knew it it was show time, we did a half an hour set including a striptease to Cherry Pie, a chair routine to Kiss by Prince, my belly dance to After Dark and many more. Everyone was very vocal which was nice, Scotland and Wales are always great crowds, they really get into.We hung about for the rest of the evening and watched the couple of headling bands that were on after us including a very surreal set from the Red Hot Chili Pipers.. i expected RHCP covers with bag pipes but sadly there was no chilis tunes but they did throw in some rock anthems for the crowd who was going mental and jiggin all over the place. We got home around 5am and crawled in to bed a little worse for wear for a couple of hours because back to Wales again tomorrow!!

May 15th Chepstow, Wales,16/17th London

We started this week with a gig in Tiger Lounge on monday in manchester which was nice, cosy and local, we perform there the 2nd monday of the month if we dont have a booking out of town so its a nice base for us to get friends down and we had a few there that night so it was a good catch up. Thursday saw us off to Wales, myself and Scarlet O'Harlet were performing in the show at Liquid in Chepstow for our friend Joe from The Graveyard Johnnys. We had my fellow party partner in crime Sophia with us too so we were all up for some fun and games. We got there early so treated ourselves to a couple of pints of cider and black and a few games of pool in our favourite chepstow haunt the 5 alls, weve done gigs here in the past and the chepstow lot Ali, Joe, Lucy and Tom are wicked and always up for a party. This was the first time in ages I've felt a bit nervous because I had some friends coming down from Cardiff to see the show for the first time and although that doesnt normally bother me I really wanted them to like it. We headed to the venue and had a laugh in our super small dressing room the size of a toilet cubicle or something until the gang Pritch, Porno Paul and Dan arrived. we had a few drinks and caught up before show time. We did a full half hour set between the two of us mixing up solos and duets. The club was pretty quiet but the small audience that was there loved it as did Pritch and the boys so all was good, I heard him cheering and shouting support through the gig anyway so i knew he liked it bless him! Now all that was left was to head to Cardiff to party the night away!! Sadly Scarlet had to go back to manchester as she was catching a flight to Ireland the next day for a weekend away so myself, Sophia and the guys headed off to party!! Many drinks later all thanks to Dan i think and I have little scattered memories of random moments.. me and Pritch doing drunken box splits in revolution bar and sophia dancing to girls aloud and bizarrely knowing all the words in walkabout haha oh dear, I swear she has a super memory for lyrics to every pop song in the world and shes not even into pop music! As always when drunk me a Sophia thought it would be the perfect time for a photo shoot!! oops. I thought I looked pretty sexy that night too haha obviously not!!

all in all an awesome party night! sex drugs n rock n roll til dawn haha!!

The next day we were off to London for a party weekend and our friend Emma's birthday, we drove down with Dan and Daffyd who were off to London for the FA cup final, come on Cardiff!
Needless to say a weekend of drunken debauchery followed but all in good fun! Emma had a good birthday, sadly Cardiff lost to Portsmouth we all got very drunk playing drinking games in Shoreditch and met many an interesting randomer. The girls and the guys all left sunday morning so me and soph rounded the weekend off with a chilled day out in Camden, pub crawling around all our favourite venues and getting the best chinese food in the world on the markets before heading back to Manchester tired but content.

may 5th cheltenham pool shoot!!

up at 4.30am which is totally wrong on so many levels, feel like i should be going on holiday but the fact that im catching a train at 5.30 to do a photoshoot in cheltenham at 9am can only mean one thing, il look shit!! cathy day the photographer is great fun though and it actually ended up a laugh. typically everyday has been sunny except today, its freezing and to make matters worse its an outdoor pool!! jesus, getting ready and into the pool was the hardest part in ballet shoes a cage skirt and corset but the results are totally different to what i usually do so i was happy enough. the old guys that worked at the pool definately enjoyed it too but it did feel a little bit like being on titanic, my teeth were chattering and it was hard to stay afloat because the weight of the skirt kept dragging me under..all fun and games though, we had a laugh and the results are cool, hopefully they will get to be part of her 'eye candy' photography exhibition in shoreditch.

May 3rd08 Razor Stiletto Sheffield

Well this is my first post, im gonna try add stuff that has already happened if i can to give a general gist of who we are and what we do but to give you a general idea we are a uk based burlesque dance troupe that tour internationally performing our unique rock burlesque show. Aswell as our full length show that is part original cabaret part modern rock show we also do backing dancing and support slots for rock bands and such aswell as music videos. i choreograph, manage and perform in the show and aside of the glitter kittens i am a dancer in the theatre show Vampires Rock. i will try and fill you in with our life on the road but having already done so much over the past couple of years for now im just gonna start from this week.

Saturday night myself and Scarlet had a gig in Sheffield at a night called Razor Stiletto, it was a pretty cool venue, a club called DQ, the night was an electro night which was a great change from all the rock nights we do, i was determined to get smashed after a week being serious and business like which i can only do for a short time before going metal and needing to let off steam! well smashed i did get,ha oh dear!! I know i drank a few pints before the gig cos i was genuinly enjoying the night and then they gave us a bottle of white wine, scarlet was driving so i was drinking solo in our gang you can imagine the rest from then on..rock n roll!! back to that later, anyway. showtime was good fun, a big crowd, good atmosphere, photographers,a nice high stage so everyone could see and we only had to do one routine so it was pretty easy for us. It was then party time before joining the headline band 'Darlings of the splitscreen' to dance onstage with them to their single 'Hiroshima'. We loved it, it was pretty cramped up there but the atmosphere was wicked. After showtime the night becomes a blur of alcohol induced antics that seem great ideas at the time, i probably wouldnt remember details except i filmed the whole thing, haha its a good watch, il try add some footage up soon, it includes hanging outside the toilets dancing with strangers,a very weird catwalk session, spanking a random girl in silky underwear and a quick chat with the security man in the mens toilets?! i dont know how these things come about but the strangest things start to seem the norm over time. well we partied til 4ish before heading home and getting very car sick(well alcohol sick) and having to stop on snakes pass, scary, scarlet bless her had to drive me home while i was passed out in the car and was no company at all for her. a good night though but a bad hangover the next day!!
